A woman is looking at her hair in the mirror

Why Is My Hair Getting Thinner?

After 26 years behind the chair, I’ve seen a lot…

When I first started doing hair, the biggest hair loss conversations were usually with new moms. A client would come in worried because she was losing hair by the handful after having a baby. I’d reassure her that postpartum shedding was common and that, more often than not, her hair would eventually regain its fullness once her hormones settled.

These days, the conversation looks a little different.

Now that I’m approaching 50, many of my clients are too, and one thing I’ve noticed over and over again is that women are struggling with thinning hair. Women who have always had thick hair. Women who never thought hair loss would happen to them. Women who tell me, “My ponytail is half the size it used to be,” or “I can suddenly see my scalp.”

I’ve also noticed that major life events can have a huge impact on our hair.

  • A surgery.
  • A divorce.
  • The loss of a loved one.
  • A health scare.
  • An incredibly stressful season of life.

Sometimes our bodies go through something significant, and a few months later our hair starts telling the story.

But if I’m being completely honest…

What I’ve noticed more than anything over the last few years is how many women experiencing hair loss have one thing in common: they’re taking a GLP-1 medication.

Now, I’m not a doctor, and I’m certainly not claiming to know exactly why. I just know what I’m hearing from clients every single week.

Women who are thrilled with their health progress, but also concerned because they’re seeing more hair in the shower, more hair in their brush, and less hair in their ponytail.

Whether the common denominator is the medication itself, rapid weight loss, changes happening in the body, or something else entirely, I can’t say.

What I can say is that the concern is real.

The turning point for me…

The turning point for me came when one of my longtime clients called me in tears. She was genuinely panicked about how much hair she was losing.

As her stylist, I wanted to help her. But I also knew this was bigger than recommending a product or changing her haircut. That’s when she found Rachelle.

Within a few months, things started changing. The excessive shedding slowed down. New growth started coming in. Her confidence came back.

And today? Her hair is thicker than I’ve ever seen it.

Watching her transformation was one of the reasons I decided to bring Rachelle and the Hair Loss Studio to Canyon Salon. Because I realized how many women are quietly worrying about the exact same thing.

Hair loss can feel scary.

Hair loss can feel scary. It can make you feel less like yourself. It can chip away at your confidence little by little.

And the hardest part is that so many women think they’re the only one going through it.

Trust me, you’re not.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after 26 years of doing hair…

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after 26 years of doing hair, it’s that hair loss is far more common than most people realize-and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

If you’ve been noticing more shedding, a widening part, less volume, or just feel like your hair isn’t what it used to be, let’s start the conversation.

You don’t have to wait until you’re in full panic mode.

And you definitely don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
